The construction on the future public space will start in June 2023 with new tree plantings. All parking will be moved to the new Public Parking Lot along the beach road.
Plantings have started and additional materials are being acquired to construct the park.
The life guard stand will be relocated to the area of the Park for greater visibility and closer proximity to the majority of swimming incidents.
The new parking lot is open for parking and final design is currently being worked on for additional trees, fencing, and surface. The preliminary design is posted at the bottom of this page and updates will be provided for here.
The future parking lot design will include bathrooms and showers. Final design and permits have not yet been approved. Any future developments will be posted here.
The green committee is focused on ensuring that the natural beauty of Playa Avellanas is maintained, protected, and enhanced. This includes protection and reforestation of the Mangrove, sustainable development, and protection and propagation of exiting plants and animals in Avellanas.
Current Mangrove Protection initiative includes a letter from SINAC stating the that Avellanas Mangrove contains numerous plant and animal species that must be protected and that development into the Mangrove is not allowed. Authority was granted for the community to block expansion of the road into the Mangrove near the North side of Avellanas.
Did you know?
Mangroves are so efficient that despite covering less than 0.5% of the
global marine surface, *capture carbon at an annual rate of two to four times
higher than that of tropical forests*, storing three to five times more carbon per unit area. All this represents half of the carbon that is contained
in ocean sediment. Help us protect our mangrove!
You can participate in its conservation, send us an email to: comiteverdeavellanas@gmail.com
The new parking lot is now open and the rates are as follows:
Half Day: 1000 colones
Full Day: 2000 colones
50% Community Discount
Community Monthly Passes available for 15.000 colones
All proceeds from the new parking lot go directly back to the community through improvement an conservation initiatives and projects.
Work is continuing with a guard shack, continued planting, fencing, and security. With your continued use of the lot, these initiatives as well as full design with showers and restrooms will be achieved.
